Valerie Ndaruzaniye

Valerie Ndaruzaniye is President of Global Water Institute (GWI). The mission of GWI is to assist post-conflict countries by training and working with ex-combatants and other marginalized groups in water-related programs for the prevention of conflicts. Ndaruzaniye is also Country Director of the Institute of Multi-Track Diplomacy (IMTD) in Belgium. The mission of IMTD is to promote a systems approach to peacebuilding and to facilitate the transformation of deep-rooted social conflict.
Until recently, Ndaruzaniye worked as program manager at IMTD and Global Water in Washington D.C. where she initiated and launched senior programs used in Track 1 and Track 2 Diplomacy. She was professor and trainer at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) in Virginia, and at District of Columbia, Washington (DC) Park Center, where she has taught courses in health conditioning approaches and nutrition, respectively.
Ndaruzaniye served as chair on various Boards working on issues including, water and sanitation, public and environment health, human security, and social development. She initiated and led UN supported NGOs, and organized several conferences on public and environmental health issues in various countries on the four continents.
She has collaborated with organizations such as the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS) and international NGOs (including CARE, Catholic Relief Services, Africare, Food for the Hungry, World Vision International, WaterPartners International, etc.), members of the Millennium Water Alliance, on issues related to United States and international policies on water and sanitation, conflict prevention, global environmental security, and public health. She has collaborated and participated in several workshops and conferences organized by the U.S. Congress, the World Bank, the UNEP, and the Woodrow Wilson Centre, to cite a few.
She has authored several publications related to environmental security, global water policies, climate change, and conflict prevention.
Ndaruzaniye holds a Master Degree in Public Administration with specialties in Environmental Health and Government Affairs from the School of Public Affairs at American University, Washington D.C., and a BA specializing in both, recreational sports leadership and Public Health for Peacebuilding from EMU. She also studied Public Health Strategies & Public Policy at George Washington University and Strategic Management at Catholic University, both in Washington D.C. USA.
