Risks and Vulnerabilities' Assessment

In-depth assessment of risks and vulnerabilities of ‘water security’ in the Horn of Africa, particularly Ethiopia, should go beyond simply assessing the number of households with water access, or the number of people living in area where drought is severe, or the number of people migrating inside Ethiopia from neighbouring countries due to water and food insecurity.

Le Plan d'Action National Togolais pour les secteurs de l'eau, de l'environnement et des ressources naturelles vise à attendre les Objectifs du Millénaire pour le Développement.

Sur l’invitation du Gouvernement Togolais, Global Water Institute et son partenaire Hylem Water ont participé à la Table Ronde des partenaires techniques et financiers le 8 et 9 Juin 2011.

GWI a continué sa mission sur le terrain dans une banlieue de la capitale togolaise pour analyser les besoins en eau et assainissement et les dégâts d'assainissement dans les écoles primaires et les centres de santé.

Ex-Combatants in Burundi Say They Need Training in Water Resource Management

Through a face-to-face dialogue, ex-combatants in Burundi said to the Global Water Institute that they need training in water resources’ management.

GWI uses mediation skills to guide ex-combatants and local governments through the process of dialogue using their needs and their rights in terms of water-related values.

After the Africa Dialogue Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Africa, Climate Change, Environment and Security

Although local government and international financial partners should put priorities on helping African local communities to adapt and become resilient to climate-induced water challenges, there is also a need for regional governing entities, such as the African Union, to provide for an authentically African political oversight. This in turn requires the establishment of an effective functioning Executive Bureau from within the African Union capable of monitoring and assisting locally implemented water-related programmes and other human security mechanisms.
